NEW: OUR RAIN & SUN UMBRELLAS | DELIVERY ACROSS EUROPE

F.A.Q

BEAU NUAGE

Beau Nuage is a French clothing and accessories brand designed around the weather.

We develop technical, practical products that let you enjoy the outdoors in both rain and sunshine, guided by one simple idea: to create useful products that are made to last and pleasant to use every day.

We also incorporate recycled materials into our collections, particularly recycled polyester made from plastic bottles.

We prioritise the use of recycled materials whenever they are compatible with the performance we are looking for.

The fabric used for our umbrellas is made from recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles. The main material used for our technical clothing and cap also incorporates recycled polyester made from plastic bottles.

We also aim to reduce waste at the end of a product’s life: products that can no longer be sold but are still usable may be donated, while items that are no longer usable are sorted and sent to specialist recycling channels.

Our products are designed in France and manufactured in China by specialist manufacturers.

There are no longer any manufacturers of folding umbrella frames in Europe. Their production is now concentrated in Asia.

Manufacturing folding umbrellas in France would therefore involve importing the frames and, most likely, the fabric before assembling them in France, with the direct consequence of at least doubling or tripling the retail price.

The same applies to technical clothing using waterproof and breathable membranes and sealed seams, which require specific equipment and expertise.

THE UMBRELLAS

Yes! A Beau Nuage umbrella is inseparable from its cover and the opposite is also true ! Even the Gentleman comes with an absorbent cover that allows you to carry it over your shoulder.

Opening of The Original and The Mini : When you open it, be careful not to press the button on the slider. Simply slide the slider without pressing the button until it clicks into place at the top. The button must be pressed when you want to close the umbrella. Then simply close the pole by sliding the slider down or by pushing the top of the umbrella down

Opening of L'Automatique : For this model, you only have to press the button to open the umbrella and close it again. To complete the closing, it is necessary to push the top of the umbrella down until it clips to the handle. Without this step, it is not possible to re-open the umbrella.

Opening of Le Gentleman : Le Gentleman has an automatic opening and a manual closing. You simply press the button to open and close it by sliding its slider down until it clips onto the handle.

The cover diameters of Le Mini and L'Original are almost identical: 90cm. This is the perfect size to cover one person and enough to cover a couple. If you are looking for a larger coverage, L'Automatique is preferable with an amplitude of 92cm. But the undeniable comfort of Le Gentleman remains superior: its wider ribs cover a little more than 1m in diameter.

Our cover consists of a triple-layer absorption technology, which is patented. The inner layer is a special microfiber fabric, capable of absorbing up to 200 times its weight in water. The intermediate layer, known as the repulsion layer, is a completely waterproof material. It not only keeps the outer layer always dry by preventing droplets from passing through but also constantly brings the droplets back into the microfiber. Finally, the outer layer is an umbrella fabric coated with a water-repellent coating. So the cover absorbs raindrops but is not intended to completely dry the umbrella. We therefore recommend always letting them dry by leaving the umbrella open and turning the cover inside out once you are home.

We do not sell covers individually, so please be careful not to lose yours. In case this happens, do not hesitate to contact us at contact@beau-nuage.com. We will do our best to find a cover that matches your umbrella and save your Beau Nuage. But we cannot make any promises!

Its patented absorbent cover.

It solves the problem of the wet umbrella: once the shower has passed, you can simply place your umbrella inside its cover and then put it in your bag without getting your belongings wet.

And because you no longer need to leave your umbrella at the entrance to a shop, restaurant or office, you are also far less likely to forget it.

But the Beau Nuage difference goes beyond the cover: dense 200T recycled polyester fabric, 7 or 8 ribs depending on the model, and frames combining steel, aluminium and fibreglass all contribute to their strength and durability.

The quality and thickness of the fabric also mean that our umbrellas have achieved a UPF 50+ rating following testing by Bureau Veritas. Your Beau Nuage umbrella can therefore become a genuine parasol when the sun is strong.

Yes. That is precisely what our absorbent cover is designed for.

We simply recommend giving the umbrella a quick shake before placing it in its cover to remove excess water.

The cover then allows you to carry it without getting your belongings wet.

No. It absorbs water so that you can carry your wet umbrella, but it is not designed to dry it completely.

Once you are home, open the umbrella and turn the cover inside out so that both can air dry.

Yes. The cover can be washed at 30°C on a delicate cycle.

We then recommend allowing it to air dry.

It all depends on how you plan to use it.

The Mini is the most compact model in the range. Measuring just 18.5 cm when folded, it slips easily into a bag. It has 8 ribs, which is particularly unusual for an umbrella of this size.

The Original is our iconic model and offers an excellent balance between compactness, lightness and durability. It also features 8 ribs.

The Automatic features 7 ribs and opens and closes at the touch of a button. It is particularly convenient when you have one hand occupied or need to get into a car quickly in the rain.

The Gentleman offers the greatest coverage in the range. Its fully fibreglass frame features 8 ribs. Its generous size provides comfortable coverage for one or two people. Its wind-resistant canopy, designed in two sections, allows wind to escape more easily and therefore contributes to its strength.

We design them to offer a good balance between strength, flexibility and weight.

Depending on the model, their frames combine steel, aluminium and fibreglass. Fibreglass in particular provides flexibility and enables certain parts of the frame to better withstand deformation caused by the wind.

However, an umbrella’s strength never depends on a single material: it results from the overall design of the frame, ribs, joints and fabric.

It is normal for an umbrella to turn inside out during a strong gust of wind. If this happens, simply turn it to face the opposite direction to the wind and it should return to its original shape.

If it turns inside out several times, this is probably a sign that the wind has become too strong. In that case, it is best to take shelter under a roof and wait for the rain to stop or the storm to pass.

Because durability is our priority.

Saving a few dozen grams can require reducing the amount of material used in the fabric or frame.

We prefer to retain components that are sufficiently robust to create an umbrella that is pleasant to use and designed to last.

Yes.

The fabric used for our umbrellas has been tested and rated UPF 50+ by Bureau Veritas. It filters more than 99.9% of UVA and UVB rays.

Your Beau Nuage umbrella can therefore also be used as a parasol when the sun becomes too intense.

200T refers to the density of the weave: approximately 200 threads per square inch.

A densely woven fabric contains more material, has a more premium feel and contributes to the umbrella’s durability.

This is one of the technical choices Beau Nuage has made rather than focusing solely on achieving the lowest possible weight.

We use densely woven 200T fabric with a soft, silky feel.

For our plain colours, the fabric is dyed rather than surface printed. This means the colour is consistent throughout the material and looks the same on both sides of the canopy.

The amount of recycled polyester used for the canopy of our folding models is equivalent to approximately 6 500 ml plastic bottles.

For The Gentleman, the equivalent is approximately 8 500 ml plastic bottles.

After use, shake it to remove any excess water.

You can then temporarily place it inside its absorbent cover.

As soon as possible, open the umbrella and turn the cover inside out so that both can air dry. This simple step helps preserve the frame and the different metal components.

For economic reasons, repairing a broken umbrella is not always worthwhile: between return postage costs and the cost of the repair itself, the total can quickly represent a significant proportion of the umbrella’s price.

However, some umbrellas have particular sentimental value: perhaps they were a gift, a souvenir, or simply an object you are attached to.

In that case, we will be happy to direct you to a repair workshop that has access to Beau Nuage spare parts.

THE CAP

Its fabric has a waterproof rating of 15,000 mm hydrostatic head, or 15K. This provides effective protection, including during heavy rain.

Its water-repellent treatment also helps water roll off the material and allows it to dry more quickly.

Yes.

Its fabric has a breathability rating of 10K g/m²/24 hrs. This allows a significant proportion of the water vapour produced by the body to escape.

This helps keep the cap comfortable to wear even in warmer weather or when walking actively.

Yes.

Its fabric has been tested by Bureau Veritas and rated UPF 50+. It filters more than 99.9% of UVA and UVB rays.

The Cap is therefore a true all-season accessory, providing protection in both rain and sunshine.

However, like any cap, it does not replace other precautions required during strong sun exposure, such as sunglasses, sunscreen or limiting exposure during the hottest times of day.

The Cap comes in one size and features an adjustable system at the back, making it easy to adapt to your head size.

Yes.

Its main fabric is made from recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles.

The amount of recycled polyester used for one cap is equivalent to more than 3 500 ml plastic bottles.

Hand wash at 30°C. Do not iron.

READY-TO-WEAR

The Raincoat and The Parka are made from technical fabric with a waterproof rating of 15K, equivalent to a 15,000 mm hydrostatic head.

This level provides protection during heavy and prolonged rain.

A fabric’s waterproof performance is measured using the hydrostatic head test.

The fabric is subjected to increasing water pressure until water begins to pass through it.

A 15K rating means that the fabric can withstand a 15,000 mm column of water: a high level of waterproofing suitable for very wet conditions and prolonged use in the rain.

The Raincoat and The Parka have a breathability rating of 10K g/m²/24 hrs.

This figure indicates the amount of water vapour the fabric is able to release over a 24-hour period.

It helps reduce the build-up of moisture inside the garment when walking, commuting or taking part in active urban activities.

Yes, all our clothes are unisex. We have separated our products on our website for clarity for you, but there is no difference between the Men's and Women's designs in our ready-to-wear collections. For each size, there is a Men/Women equivalence. For example, the XS size in Men's Raincoat corresponds to an S in Women's, as well as for the Fleece and Parka. When you receive your product, both sizes will be indicated in this way: Woman: S - Man: XS

Our ready-to-wear products are design with slightly oversized cuts. Therefore, they fit larger than other similar products. To find the size that fits you best, feel free to refer to our size guides directly on the products pages.

The Fleece’s material has been carefully chosen to keep you warm and breathable, so you'll be comfortable inside. It will protect you in the lightest rain. However, in the event of heavy showers, we recommend that you supplement it with an umbrella or raincoat.

The material of The Raincoat has been meticulously selected to provide complete protection from the rain, notably due to its waterproof rating of 15K. However, it is not lined with insulating material against the cold. Therefore, it is worn alone in the mid-season, but in winter, you can easily pair it with The Fleece. This way, you will be protected from both the cold and the rain.

The Parka features Primaloft® insulation with a CLO thermal insulation rating of 2.6.

It was developed to provide a high level of protection against the cold and may be suitable for temperatures down to approximately -15°C.

Of course, how cold you feel will vary from person to person and will also depend on your activity level, the wind and the clothing worn underneath the parka.

The fabric used for The Raincoat and The Parka has been tested by Bureau Veritas and rated UPF 50+.

It filters more than 99.9% of UVA and UVB rays.

Yes.

The main material used for our clothing range is made from recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles.

As a guide, for a size M, the amount of recycled material used is equivalent to approximately 51 500 ml bottles for The Raincoat, 52 for The Fleece and 69 for The Parka.

Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle, then allow to air dry.

Do not use high temperatures and avoid ironing.

Over time, when water no longer beads as easily on the surface, occasionally using a product designed to reactivate the water-repellent properties of technical clothing may be useful.
